Harvest Apple Challah
Ingredients:
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 packet of active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 2 apples, peeled, cored, and diced
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions:
- In a bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Make a well in the center.
- Pour the yeast mixture into the well, then oil and beaten eggs. Mix to form a dough.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface until elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Punch down the risen dough and knead in diced apples, pecans, and cinnamon.
- Divide the dough in half and braid into two loaves.
- Place the loaves on a baking sheet and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.
