Harvest Apple Challah


  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 packet of active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon


  1. In a bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Make a well in the center.
  3. Pour the yeast mixture into the well, then oil and beaten eggs. Mix to form a dough.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface until elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Punch down the risen dough and knead in diced apples, pecans, and cinnamon.
  7. Divide the dough in half and braid into two loaves.
  8. Place the loaves on a baking sheet and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.
